Members of Department of Drugs and Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested an alleged firearms trader with two pistols and some ammunition from a passengers bus at Bangra area on Rajshahi-Dhaka highway of the district yesterday.
The detained person was identified as Titash, 19, son of Nurshed Alam of Gangarampur village under Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj district.
On a tip-off, a DNC team conducted a raid in the Dhaka bound bus belongs to Hanif Paribahan and picked up Titash around 11.30 am.
Thereafter, the team members seized two foreign pistols, four magazines and ten round of bullets after searching his body.
Another report adds: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 550 bottles of phensidyl from the Padma River at Rautha in Rajshahi on Friday.
Tipped off, a team of BGB led by Mirganj camp Nayeb Subedar Abul Taleb conducted a drive in the area and seized the consignment of phensidyl syrup from a boat in the river at noon, said sources at Mirganj BGB camp.
However, none was arrested as the smugglers managed to flee the scene.
