No scope to alter metro rail route, says minister
The metro rail route cannot be changed and the main construction activities of the rail project will begin from March, said road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader yesterday. Weve fixed the route after holding discussions with Dhaka University (DU) authorities. The metro rail will be constructed on the pillars, not on the ground surface. Besides, modern technology will be used to control sound pollution, the minister told reporters, before taking part in a function at Dhakeswari Mandir.
He brushed aside suggestions of any sound pollution in connection with the metro rail in DU areas. A station will be set up near the campus so that DU students can easily avail of the rail service, Quader said. Later, the minister took part in a function organised by the Nohanagar Sarbojanin Puja Udjapan Committee to mark Family Day. All citizens have equal rights in Bangladesh. The people from different cultures and religions are living in the country in communal harmony since time immemorial. The government will never allow anything to destroy such communal harmony, Quader said.
Todays communal fanaticism is the enemy of all, the minister said, adding, Weve to resist such extremism in a united manner.
Suranjit Sengupta, MP, Hazi Selim, MP, Puja Committee president JL Bhoumik, general secretary Jaynta Kumar Dev and leaders Kajal Devnath and Narayan Saha Moni, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
