Six shops gutted
Bhola: Six shops were gutted by a fire that broke out at Mollahhat Bazar in Borhanuddin upazila early yesterday, reports UNB. Locals said the fire originated from an electric short circuit in a shop around 4am and soon engulfed five other adjoining shops. On information, a fire fighting unit rushed in and extinguished the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts. The affected shop owners claimed that the estimated loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk10 lakh.
Jessore Kotwali OC closed
The officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Modal police station, Shikdar Akkas Ali, was closed to the district police line on Thursday on various charges, reports UNB.
Mir Shafin Mahmud, assistant superintendent of police, said OC Akkas Ali was closed following different allegations, including his laxity in curving deterioration of the towns law and order. When connected, Ali Akkas said he was on leave for seven days.
Burglars stole computers
Tangail: Burglars stole computers and others valuable electronic equipment from the laboratory of RK Pilot High School on Mirzapur College Road on Thursday night, reports UNB.
Computer teacher of the school Selina Begum said burglars cut the grill of the laboratory from the back side of the school and looted four CPU, 4 monitors, 3 key boards, one projector and two internet modems worth Tk about three lakh from the room. Night guard of the school Mohenta Sarker was on-duty.
Rafiqul Islam headmaster of the school said a case was lodged with Mirzapur police station. The equipment has been supplied by the government for digital class room.
Convicted prisoner dies
Jessore: A convicted prisoner, who had been serving jail term at Jessore Central jail, died at Jessore Medical College Hospital (JMCH) on Thursday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Shahinur Rahman, 45, of Sadar upazila in Bagerhat district. Jail sources said Shahinur was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital following his illness on Thursday night. He died at the hospital a few hours later.
Current nets seized
MUNSHIGANJ: A mobile court here in a drive seized 75 lakh metres current net from a factory at Hatimara
area under Sadar upazila of the district on Thursday, reports BSS.
The mobile court, led by executive magistrate Asif Anam Siddiqui, conducted the raid in the N A Industries and seized 75 lakh metres current net and huge quantity of net producing yarn from the factory.
It also arrested manager of the factory Zakir Hossain during the raid, mobile court sources said. The court also fined the factory Tk 10,000 for illegal production of current fishing nets, the sources added.
Later, the seized current nets and yarns were burnt on the bank of
Dhaleshwari River in presence of officials concerned.
300 blankets distributed in Narail
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Mahmud Sharif on Thursday distributed more than 300 blankets among the cold-hit people of the district, reports BSS.
The blankets were donated by local unit of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS). The distribution ceremony was organized by local unit of the BDRCS.
High officials of BDRCS, district administration, journalists and elites of the town were present on the occasion.
