BCB North Zone squeezed past Prime Bank South Zone by 74 runs on the fourth and final day of the first round match in the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Shaheed AHM Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi yesterday.
Resuming the fourth day at 156-4, BCB North Zone lasted 50-minutes to add just 26 runs at the cost of the remaining six wickets. Skipper Naeem Islam, who belted for 22, added just one run before being trapped lbw by Abdur Razzak.
And Dhiman Ghosh chimed in with 11. Thereafter, the wickets were stumbling at regular intervals. They finally managed to score 182 runs following their first innings of 392 and set a target of 231 runs for South Zone, who put on 344 in first innings.
Experienced left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak was the main destroyer, who finished with the figures of 26.2-9-58-7.
Chasing the target, South Zone got off to a solid start through their opening stand of Shahriar Nafees and Mahedi Hasan but off-spinner Taijul Islam trapped opener Mahedi lbw when he was on 26.
Opener Shahriar Nafees whipped a patient 74 runs from 125 ball with seven fours and one six before being caught behind by Dhiman Ghosh off Nasir Hossain.
Elsewhere, the match between Walton Central Zone and Islami Bank East Zone ended in a draw at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra.
Central Zone resumed the fourth day at 64-3 and added 104 runs at exchange of seven wickets. The overnight duo-Shamsur Rahman (30) and Shykat Ali (16) sent back in the gulf of 15 runs.
At this stage, Tanvir Haider then tried to stretch the lead but he didn’t get ample support from the other end. Haider was the last batsman out hammering 46 off 134 with four fours and one six before being bowled. Finally they mustered 168 after their first innings 394 and set a target of 207 for East Zone, who scored in first innings 355.
