AP, Srinagar: Police fired warning shots and tear gas Thursday to quell hundreds of protesters shouting anti-India slogans after the body of a young man with his throat slit was found near his home in the main city in the Indian portion of Kashmir. The protesters accuse the Indian army of torturing and killing the university engineering student, Owais Bashir Malik. The army denies it. The protesters hurled rocks Thursday as police tried to clear them from a road leading to the airport. Anti-India sentiment runs deep in Kashmir, the disputed Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan and claimed by both countries.
