World Accreditation Day observed

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday put emphasis on enhancing the standard of health services to discourage people's tendency to go abroad spending huge foreign currency, which the minister termed as 'shame for the nation,' reports BSS.
"People's living standard has gone up which included preferring better treatment and health services. Despite having a huge number of hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centers, the patients in most of the cases could not rely upon their services due to lack of standard a huge number of patients are queuing for treatment abroad," he said.
He was addressing a seminar titled "Accreditation: Supporting the Delivery of Health and Social Care” as the chief guest at DCCI auditorium in the capital. Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) jointly organised the seminar marking the World Accreditation Day, 2015.
The minister asked the local health service providers to follow the certification of International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) that the foreign hospitals are now to obtaining as symbol of high standard in giving health services.
"It is urgently needed to ensure quality services to the people given by the social and health service providers equipping them with adequate manpower and assistances. The concept of accreditation could play a vital role to ensure quality services," he also said.
Management and System Certification Wing of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institute (BSTI) received an accreditation certificate (international acceptance certificate) of the country's first-ever certification body (certificate giving organization) of the BAB due to maintain standard, environment and food security.
The minister yesterday distributed accreditation certificate to seven organisations such as Divine Fabrics Ltd, Central Textile Testing Laboratory, Analytical Chemistry Laboratory Atomic Energy Commission, Petroleum Product Testing Laboratory of Patromex Refining Ltd, Central Chemical Testing Laboratory of Samuda Chemical Complex, Textile Testing Laboratory of TUV SUD Bangladesh (private) Ltd, Testing and Calibration Laboratory of BSTI and Bangladesh Material Testing Laboratory of DIRD Group.
A total of 23 national and multi-national companies, two calibration laboratories and one medical laboratory have achieved certificate from the BAB.
