While Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was heavily criticized for giving T20 cricket much importance ahead of Test cricket, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza said they are forced to play the shortest format of the cricket because of their uncertain International schedule.
Those who criticized Bangladesh’s strategy raised a point that the other teams are playing Test cricket and ODI cricket despite the World T20 is knocking at the door but Bangladesh are the only team to play T20 cricket, giving up other format while they are often crying for more Tests.
Mashrafe however came up with an answer: “Their schedules have been fixed three years in advance. We don’t know what we will do in the upcoming six months. We need to know that.”
“Australia and New Zealand are playing a Test series and this was fixed five years in advance. That is a point.” He said there is no alternative to Test cricket but Bangladesh were forced to play T20 cricket.
“There is no alternative to Test cricket. Because if you want overall development of your cricket, there is no alternative. But at the moment you can see that we are playing the Asia Cup T20 and ICC World Twenty 20, so in a sense we are forced to play T20 cricket at the moment.”
“ We have nothing to do. We haven’t done anything in T20 cricket in the past that we can look up to. In fact we are behind Afghanistan as well. So we have to observe these issues as well, when we play against Zimbabwe.”
