The broader price index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) neared 4,700 points mark to close week flat in green. The DSEX, however, gained 20.11 points during the week riding on the back of small-cap companies, reports BSS.
The DSEX crossed 4700 points at the last session of the week yesterday, but closed marginally lower at 4696.96, with the blue-chip DS30 following it at 1761.10. The Shariah DSES ended the week flat in red at 1118.94.
Most of the financial institutions except life insurance companies increased during this week when market capitalisation of general insurance rose by 7.39 per cent, NBFI 3.74 per cent and bank 1.58 per cent.
Among the major losers in market capitalisation were Olympic 3.2 per cent, Titas Gas by 2.8 per cent and Lafarge Surma by 2.2 per cent.
The major gaining sectors were IT (16.9 per cent) general insurance (7.4 per cent) and travel and leisure (4.6 per cent). The major losing sectors were service real-estate (-3.05 per cent) and life insurance (-3.03 per cent).
The top gaining companies were ITC (35.2 per cent), United Insurance (30.1 per cent) and Dacca Dye (23.8 per cent).
The major losing companies were Anwar Galvanizing (-8.9 per cent), Quasem Drycell (-8.5 per cent) and GQ Ball Pen (-8.3 per cent). The daily average trade value rose by 15.88 per cent to Tk 628.98 crore and the volume by 41.47 per cent to 9.83 crore shares.
