State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam has said the country can make progress through small and medium enterprises (SMEs) if there are proper initiatives and directions, reports UNB.
“There’s no alternative to small and medium enterprises for the socio-economic development of Bangladesh,” he said while inaugurating the five-day ‘Regional SME Product Fair’ at the Green Plaza of Rajshahi City Corporation on Wednesday, said a Foreign Ministry press release yesterday.
Noting that the country’s people are hard-working, Shahriar said they can do anything if they get proper leadership and co-operation.
He said the government is developing the SME sector on a priority basis to make every person capable.
The state minister also informed that the work has already begun to establish the country’s first ‘Agriculture-based Industries Processing Zone’ on 603,000 acres of land in Rajshahi Zone with the financial support from World Bank.
“Besides, the process is underway to allocate fund for setting up a Special Economic Zone in Khorkhori bypa ss area of Rajshahi district,” he said.
