5th convocation of DIU held
The fifth convocation of Daffodil International University (DIU) was held at its Ashulia campus in the capital on Wednesday, says press release.
On behalf of the president Md Abdul Hamid, chancellor of Daffodil International University, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid presided over the ceremony and conferred the degrees among the students.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, the Crown Prince of Perlis, Malaysia and Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) attended the event as the convocation speaker.
Md Sabur Khan, chairman, Board of Trustees and Yousuf Mahabubul Islam, vice-chancellor of the university, addressed the convocation.
A total 3,683 students were conferred graduation and post graduation degrees and among them 14 best result oriented graduates were awarded ‘gold medal’ in different categories.
The chancellors gold medal winners are Zulfikar Ansary from Textile Engineering, Fahmida Emran Mumu of MBA and Amena Khatun of MSC in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.
Brig Gen Datuk Professor Emeritus Dr Kamaruddin Hussain, vice-chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis and an international motivational speaker also attended the programme.
Terming the private universities as a thrust sector of higher education, Education Minister Nahid said some private universities are trying their best to improve the quality education and a large number of foreign students are also come to study in those universities.
Selim Al-Deen's death anniv observed at JU
SAVAR: The 8th death anniversary of Professor Selim Al-Deen, an eminent playwright and founder chairman of the Department of Drama and Dramatics of Jahangirnagar University (JU) was observed on the campus yesterday in a befitting manner.
Marking the day, JU Drama and Dramatics department of the university brought out a rally from the old Arts faculty premises while JU Vice-Chancellor Farzana Islam inaugurated the rally as the chief guest.
Parading main streets of the campus the rally ended at the grave of Selim Al-Deen following placing of floral wreaths.
Among others, wife of Selim Al Deen Begumzadee Meherun Nessa, noted playwright Nasir Uddin Yousuf Bachcho, teachers and students of the university along with Bangladesh Gram Theatre, Dhaka Theater, Selim-Al-Deen Foundation, Jahangirnagar Theatre and celebrity cultural organisations of the country placed floral wreaths at the grave of Selim Al Deen beside the central mosque of the campus.
Recalling Selim Al Deen's contribution, JU VC Professor Dr Farzana Islam said, 'Although he (Selim Al Deen) is not present physically with us, but he is still alive among us through his extraordinary creative works.' Selim Al Deen will live forever for his valuable contribution in the field of drama, she added.
