Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha expressed his despair about the wicket, insisting that he has no idea about the pitch in which the lone Test between Bangladesh and India will be held.
The Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium at Fatuallh which would hold its first Test since 2006 created a curious confusion after Hathurusingha announced his team has no control over what type of wicket this will be.
“I have no idea to predict this wicket. For the first time we have no control over what type of wicket this will be. We will try to select the team that gives us best chance to take 20 wickets,” Hathurusingha told the reporters when asked about the wicket.
Wicket has been the centre of all attraction ahead of Bangladesh’s any series as the players more often than not complained about the lack of home advantage. In the last two Tests against Pakistan, the wicket was also in discussion. While Bangladesh chose to play in a flat wicket in the first Test in which they earned a high scoring draw, they opted a bowling favourable track in Mirpur. They duly lost the second Test by massive margin.
Given the past record, the curator is given to prepare a flat track, revealed the sources. Even the Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli also termed it as batting paradise after seeing the wicket.
But Hathurusingha gave a different version.
“There’s a lot of cut grass on the wicket. I don’t know how it is going to behave. I have never seen that kind of wicket. Either you have a lot of grass on the wicket or no grass on the wicket. It is unusual. They have a bit of cut grass on top of the wicket. I don’t know how it is going to work.”
All that what he acknowledged indirectly was that the wicket wouldn’t be favourable for the pacers.
“The pitch is hard to read because I have never seen a pitch like this before. We have to take the heat into account as well. The wicket is not going to be a fast bowler’s paradise, that’s what I can tell you.”
“It is new for me. I don’t know, may be for other people also. I am also waiting to see how it is going to play out.”
Sources revealed the wicket would hold some moisture early in morning which is normal for any kind of wicket in any part of the world but it would be the same wicket like Khulna where Bangladesh drew their first Test against Pakistan.
Toss will be vital factor in determining the course of the game in such a batting paradise.
Hathurusingha also admitted it saying, “Winning the toss is a big advantage. You can do what you want. This heat is a big factor in our combination as well.”
“I think it has lot to do with the heat, try to keep the moisture longer. Maybe that’s the reason they put cut grass on the wicket.”
