IU Pro-VC resigns

Pro-vice chancellor Professor M Shahinoor Rahman of Islamic University stepped down from his post by submitting his resignation letter without any reason to the Secretary of  Education (University) of the university Chancellor, registrar office sources said.
IU Pro- vice chancellor Professor M Shahinoor Rahman said he had resigned following the early declaration. Now he would return to the English department of the university, he added.
While asked about the next pro-VC, Professor Abdul Hakim Sarker said the government would make decisions in this regard.
When contacted, Additional Secretary of Education (University) Helal Uddin said, Dr. Shahinoor Rahman submit application to us which is not right. If VC, Pro-VC and Treasurer want to resign from their posts, they have to submit their resignation letter to the university Chancellor.
38 people held in Sunamganj
Police in a drive from Saturday midnight to Sunday morning arrested 38 people from different places of the district on various charges, reports UNB.
The drive was simultaneously conducted by different teams of police in 11 upazilas of the district.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar police station Harun-ur-Rashid confirmed.

FARIDPUR:  A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 stationed in Faridpur nabbed a man yesterday from Madhukhali upazilla with a huge quantity of hemp (Ganja) in his possession, reports BSS.
According to a press release of RAB, acting on a tip off a team of the crime buster force led by Major Mostafa Kaizar nabbed Ashraf Sikdar, 28 from near a
sugar cane purchasing center of Bagat under Madhukhali upazilla.
Ashraf confessed to RAB that he was a professional drug peddler and had been engaged in dealing various kinds of drugs for pretty long time. RAB handed him over to Madhukhali police for necessary legal action.
One killed in road crash

An unidentified  man died falling from a loaded truck that veered off course and hit a pillar of the Bangabandhu Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge yesterday.
 Officer In-Charge of Bangabandhu East police station Akerizzaman said the driver of a North Bengal-bound truck from Dhaka lost control over the steering when it reached near pillar no 11 of Bangabandhu Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge.
As a result, the unidentified labourer, who was sitting on the loaded truck, fell down when the truck bumped into the pillar. He died on the spot.
