Bumper garlic production likely
More than 2975 hectares of land has been brought under cultivation in the nine upazilas of the district with the production target fixed at 19,783 tonnes of garlic

The marginal farmers and concerned officials of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) are expecting a satisfactory price and production of garlic in the district in the current season.
DAE office sources informed this correspondent that farmers have brought more than 2975 hectares of land under garlic cultivation in nine upazilas of the district with the production target fixed at 19,783 tonnes of garlic. DAE has provided fertilizers and arranged a brief training for the farmers.
Md Siddique, a farmer of Haji Dangi village in Char Bhadrason upazila of the district has cultivated garlic on 15 decimales of land.
Garlic plants are developing well, he said hoping that there would be bumper garlic production this year if climate favours. Khalil Sheikh, another farmer of Char Madhabdia area in Sadar upazila of the district has cultivated garlic on 30 decimals of land in the area, he said adding that garlic plants are growing well due to favourable climatic condition.
He is expecting bumper garlic yield.
Deputy Director of DAE, Faridpur GM Abdur Rouf said there might be bumper production of garlic this season if climate remains favourable.
Garlic harvesting will begin in the month of March ahead, he said.
DAE, Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI), Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) and many NGOs have taken adequate measures to make the programme successful.
