Two men, suspected to have committed robbery in a Mymensingh bound local train, were arrested at Monhanganj in Gouripur upazila on Saturday night.
Sources said a gang of 7/8 robbers swooped on the train at around 11.00 pm after it left Shyamganj Railway Station.
The gang looted cash and gold ornaments worth around Tk two lakh from the passengers, said the sources.
The two suspects have been identified as Abdus Selim, 30, son of late Abdul Hekim and Kawsar Miah, 24, son of Abdul Barek, both hailing from Gouripur.
According to railway sources and witnesses, as the train started moving from Shymganj Railway Station after a 30-minute stop and just passed the outer signal a gang of robbers got into a compartment and started looting belongings of passengers.
The passengers started screaming; but they had no help from police as the train by that time was running in speed, said police quoting passengers.
When the train was approaching towards Gouripur Railway Station and slowed down, the robbers jumped out of the train and fled.
Hearing the scream, local people rushed to the spot, chased the gang and caught two of them. Later they were handed over to police.
