Retired banker, two others killed in road crashes

Three people were killed in separate road accidents in three districts yesterday, report agencies. In Rahshahi, a retired banker was killed when a bus knocked down his auto-rickshaw in Bhadra area under Boalia police station in the city. The deceased was identified as Emdadul Haque Sarker, 65, former deputy general manager of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank. Shahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Boalia model police station, said the accident occurred when Emdadul was returning to his residence riding an auto-rickshaw. The auto-rickshaw was hit by a Dhaka-bound passenger bus at around 12.30 pm, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead. Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee away.
In Natore, a female worker was killed when a Barisal-bound BRTC bus from Rajshahi ran over her on Natore-Rajshahi highway in Dakmara area of Sadar upazila yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Sabina Begum, the worker of Pran Agro Limited in Natore. Police said the bus hit Sabina around 7.30am, leaving her dead on the spot. Following the death news, the agitated workers and locals blocked the highway. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. In Habiganj, a minor boy identified as Tamim Hasan, 8, a student of class three and son of Ruku Miah of Jatrapasha village, was killed in a road accident in Kamalkhani area under Baniachong upazila. Police said the accident occurred when a vehicle hit him while he was crossing the road at about 2 pm, leaving him injured. Tamim was sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
