Bangabandhus Homecoming Day observed

UNB

The historic Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed across the country yesterday with due solemnity and dignity, reports UNB. On January 10 in 1972, Bangabandhu returned to independent and sovereign Bangladesh after over nine and half months of captivity in a Pakistan jail. Before his release from the Pakistan jail, the great leader had been counting moments for the execution of his death sentence that was pronounced in a farcical trial.
The defeated Pakistani rulers were finally compelled to release Bangabandhu from jail. The victory of the Bangalees attained its fulfilment with his release. On the occasion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the city. After laying the floral wreath, the Prime Minister stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of independence. Flanked by central leaders of the party, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Awami League, placed another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of her party. Later, the leaders of AL’s associate bodies, including Jubo League, Chhatra League, Sramik League, Mohila Awami League, Swechchhasebak League, Jubo Mohila League, Krishak League, Dhaka city AL and other socio-cultural organisations laid wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu. Awami League will also hold a discussion at Suhrawardy Udyan on Monday afternoon where Prime Minister and AL president Sheikh Hasina will join as the chief guest. In Chittagong city, north and south districts units of AL and its front organizations celebrated the homecoming day in a befitting manner. Chittagagong city, north and south districts AL placed wreaths at Bangabandhu's portraits at all party offices, holding of discussion meetings, milad and doa mahfils.
