President to inaugurate int’l conference on sanitation today

A three-day international conference on sanitation, SACOSAN-VI will begin today in Dhaka with the aim of accelerating sanitation progress and hygiene promotion in South Asia and enhancing quality of people’s life.
President of Bangladesh Md Abdul Hamid will inaugurate the conference as chief guest and Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, minister, Ministry
of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, will chair the ceremony.
The 6th South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN-VI) will be held from January 11-13, 2016 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka. Bangladesh is hosting the conference with a slogan of “Better Sanitation, Better life”. The conference is being attended by more than 500 delegates and participants from different corners of South Asia. The conference includes three days of deliberations by the policy makers and practitioners in the context of national, regional and global priorities in the post 2015 context and developing a strategic direction for the future.
Moreover, it includes various plenary sessions, side events and an exhibition sharing wide range of information and is followed by two days field visits. By the end of the conference a declaration on the commitments (Dhaka Declaration) made by the participating countries in South Asia will be drafted through this platform.
To announce the details of the programme, the LGRD and Cooperatives Ministry of Bangladesh has arranged a press conference yesterday at the auditorium of the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE Bhaban) at Kakrail in the capital.
The SACOSAN, a government led biennial convention, is generally arranged on a rotation basis in each SAARC countries to provide a platform for interaction on sanitation.
Bangladesh hosted the first conference back in 2003 and for the second time, Bangladesh is hosting the event this year.
