CHITTAGONG: Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a fugitive convict, who was sentenced to death in a murder case, from Shah Amanat Airport in the city yesterday, reports UNB.
The arrestee was Anwar Ashraf, son of Kashem Chowdhury of Panchlaish area of the city.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-7 launched a drive at the airport and arrested Anwar around 10 am, said Shafayet Jamil, deputy director of Rab-7. Anwar arrived at the Chittagong airport by a domestic flight from Dhaka, he said.
On April 2, 2004, Noor Khalek Master, senior officer of Fatikchhari branch Golden Life Insurance, was stabbed to death by Anwar following enmity over Anwar’s suspension from the insurance company on charge of irregularities.
Later, victim’s father filed a case with Fatikchhari Police Station on August 2, 2004.
On August 19, 2014, Judge Mamin Ullah of Public safety tribunal sentenced Anwar to death while acquitted another accused-Golam Mostafa- as allegations brought against him could not be proved.
