The guardians of the Willes Little Flower School and College alleged that its authorities are charging exorbitant tuition fees from their children in the name of various charges.
They demanded withdrawal of exorbitant fees and gave an ultimatum of 24 hours or they would start continuous sit-in in front of the premises of the educational institution.
The demands came at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital yesterday.
In a written statement, the forum leader Shamima Sultana Roksana alleged that the institution is involved in different sorts of irregularities and responsible for the degradation of the quality of education and academic atmosphere.
Though the post of the principal is vacant for a long time, it is being run by an acting principal appointed by the authorities, she alleged.
Besides, she alleged that though the appointment of assistant teachers are stopped since 22 October last year but some 60 teachers have been appointed by violating the rules and 42 lecturers have been appointed since 2013 without any certificate of teachers registration.
She further said that though the institution is charging Tk 300 to Tk 1800 every year for IT facilities but there is no such facility. The coaching is prohibited but the authorities are charging fees in the name of special class, she alleged.
The tuition fees have been doubled in the year 2016 without any prior information and the acting principal did not take any step in this regard, she said.
She said, “If the additional fees are not withdrawn within 24 hours and it is made synchronise it with the institutions like Ideal School and College and Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, we will submit memoranda to education minister and directorate general of directorate of secondary and higher secondary education and we will observe indefinite sit-in programme in front of the institutions from January 17.”
Abul Hossain, acting principal of Willes Little Flower School and College told The Independent that all the allegations are baseless and they are not charging much.
“We have only increased 49.67 per cent overall fees because of the growing cost. Still we have a shortage of 10 per cent of it,” he said. Asked about the harmonisation of the fees with Ideal and Viqarunnisa, he said, “We have told the guardians to tell about it. If they feel it, we welcome them and we will settle it.”
