5 killed, 14 hurt as truck ploughs into grocery shop

At least five persons, including an Ijtema devotee and a child, were killed and 14 others injured as a good laden speedy truck ploughed into a grocery shop in Dhirasram area of the city on Joydebpur-Sylhet Highway yesterday noon.
The deceased were identified as Jonayed (8 month), son of Zakir Hossain, his grandfather and also shop owner Hasan Ali, 60, an Ijtema devotee Moslem Uddin, 65, Jimi, 2 and Nargis Akter, 32. Al deceased were the residents of Dhirasram area of Gazipur city.
Officer in charge of Joydebpur police station Khandaker Rezaul Hasan said a Kaliakoir-bound truck from Chittagong ploughed into a grocery shop as driver of the vehicle lost the control over the vehicle while giving side a CNG driven auto-rickshaw in the area at around 1.15 pm leaving Moslem dead on the spot and injured 14 others people.
The truck later plunged into a ditch beside the highway after hitting the grocery shop. Local people rushed to the spot immediate and rescued the injured and sent them to Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital. Hasan Ali, The owner of the grocery shop, died on the way to hospital and Jonayed, eight months old died at the hospital. Among the injured, Jimi and Nargis Akter died on way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Abdus Salam Sarker, residential medical officer of Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College, said 12 injured people took treatment from the hospital. Of them were identified as Roksana of Samantapur area, Kamal of Bilashpur area, Motaleb of Torotpara area, Mozammel of Dhirasram area, Rasel of Bypass area and Mili Akter of Kolerbazar area of Gazipur city.
