Keeping World Cup in mind, Bangladesh will take on visiting West Indies Under-19 team in the first match of the three-match youth ODI home series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) today.
The match will kick-start at 9:00am.
The Caribbean tourists are taking the series to acclamatise with the local condition ahead of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2016, which will be held in Bangladesh in between January 27 and February 14.
Windies head coach Graeme West echoed the same sentiment and said that the series will provide them some edge in the World Cup over the other teams.
“We’re very fortunate to be given the opportunity to play three games here against Bangladesh, to get familiar with the conditions,” said Graeme West.
“We feel that this will give us a bit of advantage over the other teams. Our first game is against England, to which we are working towards. It will be a crucial game for our group so this is perfect preparation,” West told reporters before their pre-match practice session yesterday.
Citing Bangladesh as the strongest competitor in the World Cup, English-born coach said that they are equally as strong and efficient in the condition like their seniors.
“We’re very much aware of the performances of the senior team in Bangladesh. Everybody in world cricket realises quality in Bangladesh teams. Therefore the U19s will be equally as strong and efficient in the conditions here. We certainly look towards the World Cup. We expect Bangladesh to be one of the strongest sides in the competition,” West Indian coach thought.
Bangladesh on the other hand is looking the series as the confidence boosting series for their World Cup preparation. The home side had played four home and away bilateral series coupled with a tri-nation competition throughout the last year, where they clinched all the bilateral series convincingly.
This time they want to keep the winning streak alive in the upcoming series and want to play World Cup at home yard with delighting mode.
“Winning all the matches of the series, we want to move to the World Cup,” said Mehidy Hasan Miraz, skipper of Bangladesh.
