Bangladesh Olympic team started their campaign in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament with a 1-1 draw against Bahrain yesterday at the Shamsul Huda Stadium in Jessore.
Bangladesh, who deserved to begin with a winning start in the tournament demonstrating impressive performance and produced better chances, but failed to earn full points as forwards missed a number of easy chances.
However, the Bangladesh Olympic side were under pressure during the initial hours and took time to be settle in the game as Bahrain were in aggressive mood.
The local boys committed fouls very often to stop the opponents and those were giving chances the opponents to generate attacks from the set pieces and sometimes the visitors breaking the Bangladesh defence rapidly.
But being under pressure Bangladesh boys took the lead against the run of the game with Yousuf Sifat scoring a beautiful goal defeating defenders and goalkeeper of the Bahrain. It was a counter attack and the move was built up from the midfield. Rubel ran faster than his markers before getting into box to make a cross for Sifat who sharply beat Bahrain defenders before beating an advancing Bahrain keeper (1-0).
The young boys like their senior team failed to hold the lead for a long as just five minutes later Bahrain equalised the margin when defender Rezaul failed to clear an ordinary attack and Jasim Alshaikh took the advantage to beat goalkeeper Zia comfortably on 23rd (1-1).
Bahrain boys, who are tactically and technically better than their host opponents had better ball possessions in the first half and Bangladesh enjoyed the second half.
The home side boys, who produced better scoring opportunities, could have regained the lead on 51st minute when Aminur Rahman Sajib had only Bahrain goalkeeper in front of him after receiving a Rubel through pass but he was too late to take shot and virtually allowed the advancing keeper to block him.
Rubel Meah, who was adjudged man of the match, as he deserved with the impressive performance, also paved another path to score a goal that could bring a clear lead on 59th minute but this time it was Yousuf Sifat who also got the goalkeeper as last hurdle after Rubel made a good through pass but failed to shot the ball into post as the keeper denied him.
