German professor calls on DU VC
Professor of the University of Bremen in Germany Dr Bibhuti Roy called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique yesterday at the latters office of the university.
During the meeting, they discussed the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes by the DU and the University of Bremen, said a press release. Prof Arefin expressed his gratitude to the guest for his visit to the university and keen interest in its academic and research activities.
JU holds workshop on social skill development
SAVAR: A five-day workshop on Social Skill Development begun at the seminar room of Teacher-Student Center on Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus here yesterday.
Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest with director of JU (SWCC) Professor Rasheda Akter in the chair. JU Student Welfare and Counseling Center (SWCC) organized the programme while Psychologists Ifrat Jahan presented key notes at the workshop. Over 100 students of different department took part at the event.
Two departments get new chairmen at IU
KUSHTIA: Professor Dr Goutam Kumar Das and Professor Dr A H M Aktarul Islam Zillu have been made as newly appointed chairmen of Bangla and English departments of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia respectively, campus sources said.
Professor Dr Goutam Kumar Das replaced to Professor Dr Rahman Habib of Bangla department while Professor Dr A H M Aktarul Islam Zillu replaced to Professor Dr M Mizanur Rahman of English department. IU Vice chancellor Professor Dr Abdul Hakim Sarker appointed them to the posts. They will continue to these posts for the next three years.
Rokeya University VC honoured
RANGPUR: Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr AKM Nurun Nabi has been awarded with Integrated Crop Management (ICM) Medal-2016 at a ceremony held here on Friday night.
Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah, MP, gave him the award in the function organised by Manohar ICM Farmers Club on its premises in the city, a release said. Professor Nabi, also a noted population scientist, got the award for his contributions in spreading quality higher education during his professional career.
Professor Nabi has established the Department of Population Science at Dhaka University.
Green University celebrates founding day
Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) celebrated its 14th founding day on Saturday on the campus in the capital, says press release.
Prof Md. Golam Samdani Fakir presided over the discussion marking the event. In the discussion Md Shahid Ullah, treasurer and director of Student Affairs has delivered welcome speech. Md. Mazharul Islam, Deputy Registrar of the university and Dr Jahannath Biswas, associate professor of the department of Textile Engineering had shared their experienced at GUB. Prof Golam Ahmed Faruqui, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies and Prof Md Fayzur Rahman chairperson, EEE Department also spoke, among others.
