Supporters of Rajshahi Raskha Sangram Parishad (RRSP), a local organisation to press home popular demands of Rajshahi, brought out a procession and formed a human chain at the zero point of Saheb Bazaar yesterday demanding establishment of a full fledged agricultural university in Rajshahi as pledged through a public meeting by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The human chain also demanded to implement the projects like North Rajshahi Irrigation Project, reopening of Rajshahi Sericulture Factory, ensuring health services at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and supplying of gas for house hold use. Leaders of RRSP also threatened to launch a tougher movement if the demands are not realised.
Presided over by Liakat Ali, President of RRSP, the human chain programme was attended, RRSP General Secretary Jamat Khan, RRSP Organising Secretary Debashis Pramanik Debu, RRSP Treasurer Advocate Entajul Haque Babu, Secretary of Rajshahi Journalist Union Mamunur Rashid. The speakers at the meeting demanded to fulfill their seven point demands.
Speakers said at the human chain that people of Rajshahi remained neglected for long. The popular demands of people of Rajshahi have been raised to the government several times but, those demands have always been neglected and over looked.
Jamat Khan, secretary of RRSP said that Agriculture University was a prime demand of the people of Rajshahi and the Prime Minister herself has pledged to set up an Agriculture University in Rajshahi but some vested quarters were active in conspiracy with the demand and the pledge.
