Juba League leader shot dead
Comilla: A local Juba League leader was shot to death by criminals at Padua intersection in Chauddagram upazila on Friday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Jamal Hossain, 35, former president of the Alkora union unit of Juba League and son of Ali Hossain of Kulasar village in the upazila.
Police and locals said Jamal came under attack by a group of miscreants in the area around 9:30pm on the way home from another place.
The attackers fired bullets at him and severed the tendons of both of his legs, leaving him injured.
He was taken to the upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead around 10pm.
Contacted, officer-in-charge of Chauddagram Police Station M Farhad said Jamal might have been killed by miscreants over previous enmity.
District Jamaat secretary arrested
MEHERPUR: Mohammad Farooq Hossain, secretary of Meherpur district unit of Jamaat, was arrested by police on various charges, including sabotage, from his village home on Friday, reports BSS.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided the Ashrafpur village under Meherpur Sadar upazila and arrested him from his residence.
Police said 6 cases, including 5 charges of sabotage, are pending with Sadar police station against Mohammad Farooq Hossain, 55, also a former UP chairman.
Sunshade collapse kills 2 sisters

Two sisters, who were on a visit to a relative’s home at Sabgram on Friday morning, returned home at Thanthania Hajipara in Bogra in the evening laying in coffins.
The deceased were identified as Rubaiya Jafrin Roshni, 11, and Redowana Jafrin Resta, 4, daughters of Rafiqul Islam Bakul of village Thanthania Hajipara in Bogra municipality. Rafiqul Islam Bakul is working as a senior officer at Sherpur road branch of Sonali Bank. Rubaiya Jafrin Roshni a student of class-IV in Millennium Scholastic School and College in Bogra cantonment.
The family source said Banker Rafiqul’s wife went to visit a relative’s house at Sabgram in the town on Friday morning.
In the evening, the two minor girls went to play on the first floor of the house with another girl by the name Sukana, 10, at around 5.00pm. The three girls suddenly fell down breaking a sunshade leaving Rubaiya killed on the spot and two others seriously injured. They were rushed to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where the emergency doctor declared Redowana dead. Injured Sukanna is receiving treatment in the hospital. A pal of gloom has descended in the area following deaths of the two sisters.
Bogra sadar thana officer in charge (OC) Md. Abul Bashar said an investigation is underway to find the cause of the accident.
