Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday came down heavily on BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for “terming voters, election officials and others who were present at polling stations during the January-5 national election dogs”, reports UNB. “I saw some statements in the newspapers…she [Khaleda] said no voter was there in polling centres…there were only police and dogs,” PM said.
The Prime Minister said this in her introductory speech at a meeting of Awami League Central Working Committee at her official residence Ganabhaban. She said there were election officials, media personnel and general people in the polling centres and people had been there to cast their votes.
“She [Khaleda] saw all as dogs, she saw human beings as dogs, everyone is dog in her eyes, rabies patient only see dogs in his/her eyes, which dog bites her… she has no right to say this,” she said.
Hasina also sharply criticised the students and teachers who came up with a sudden demand for changing the route of metro rail, saying that it was done just to block development activities.
"This is just to foil development activities," she said.
On Thursday, some students and teachers of Dhaka University formed a human chain in front of Raju Bhaskarja protesting the proposed metro rail route through the university campus.
The Awami League chief also criticised the government employees who are in agitation after the announcement of the eighth pay scale for public servants.
"We’ve increased the salaries by 123 percent… if anyone is hungry, that person is satisfied with a little amount of food. But when there is a huge supply, many things like prestige, luxury, dignity, and posting take the centre stage," she said.
Hasina mentioned that the government has increased the salaries significantly. “Had there been little, there would be no issue. We have given so many things, but some quarters are not happy yet…this is not comprehensible to me,” she said.
