2 factories fined TK 10 lakh
A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday night fined two factories at city's Panchlaish and Khulshi area in Chittagong Taka 10 lakh for different offences.
The factories are Thai Food Products Limited and Farmic Laboratories Limited, a medicine factory.
RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar led the mobile court at Muradpur area under Pnchlaish thana and fined the Thai Food Products Limited Taka five lakh for producing adulterated food items, selling packaged products without mentioning expiry date on the products.
In another drive, the same mobile court also fined Farmic Laboratories Limited, a medicine factory at Khulshi area Taka five lakh for producing adulterated and selling date expired medicines, said the executive magistrate.
The mobile court also held 10 cartons with adulterated medicines and destroyed those before the factory authority
1 held with counterfeit dollar
DB (Detective Branch) of Police yesterday arrested a person along with 10,000 counterfeit US dollar from a Hotel of New Market area under Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong.
The arrestee was identified as Md Shahed, 40, son Mohibullah hailing from Ramgoti upazila of Laximipur district.
“Acting of tip-off, we have conducted drive in a hotel at New Market area and nabbed Shahed with 10,000 US dollar. A total of 100 notes were seized every note denomination was $100. The entire dollar was seemed to be counterfeit,” said Sujan Kanti Barua, Sub-inspector of DB of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
A case was lodged in this connection.
Scientists want time scale back
Scientists have expressed frustration as their demands are not reflected in the eighth national pay scale, says a press release.
At an emergency meeting at Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission in the capital, they demanded restoration of time scale and selection grade in the new pay scale, says a press release. They also demanded that people be recruited to the commission as scientific officers or to equivalent posts at entry level.
Anti drug debate fest Jan 18
A weeklong Anti Drug Debate Festival is set to begin on January 18 in the capital aiming to make anti-drug campaign popular creating mass awareness on its harmful effect.
Debate for Democracy and Department of Narcotics Control will organise the debate festival, a press release said on Friday.
Inspector General of Bangladesh Police AKM Shahidul Hoque will formally inaugurate the festival. It will be participated by colleges across the country including Viqarunnesa Noon College, Siddheswari Girls College, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School and South Point College.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan is expected to attend the closing session as the chief guest on 24 January.
Cultural confce held in Barisal
Advocate S M Iqbal and Mijanur Rahman selected as new president and secretary of Barisal Sangskritik Sangathan Samannaya Parishad respectively on Friday night. The meeting was held at Kheyali Group Theater Hall with Shanti Das in the chair. The meeting also selected 31 other executive committee.
On the other hand the thirty-third annual general conference of Barisal Sangskritik Sangathan Samannaya Parishad, the alliance of 27 cultural organisations of the city, was held on Friday noon.
The day long programme was inaugurated by chairman of Barisal Education Board Prof Ziaul Huq at Barisal Aswani Kumar Hall.
