RAJSHAHI: BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi yesterday alleged that the Election Commission (EC) is beating the happy drum of the government instead of discharging its constitutional duties, reports UNB. “The Election Commission has remained busy fulfilling the government’s desires and wishes. It’s now beating the happy drum of the government instead of carrying out its constitutional duties,” he said. Rizvi came up with the allegation during a press briefing at the BNP office here in Rajshahi. Referring to the December 30 municipal polls, he said Awami League has won the election, but people have been defeated as ballots were stuffed in the boxes at night before the voting. The BNP leader also alleged that their party men could not carry out electioneering and return to their localities during polls in the face of ‘false cases’ and intimidation by the ruling party and law enforcers. Rizvi raised his party’s strong doubt about fair balloting in different suspended voting centres, including in Noakhali’s Chowmuhani and Narsingdi’s Madhabdi municipalities.
