Family members of late eminent poet Bangal Abu Sayed alleged that some influential grabbers tried to occupy their residence at the capital’s Hajaribagh area illegally. The members of the poet, who was also an anti-British leader, urged the prime minister and other government high ups to take stern action immediately against the ‘land grabbers’. While addressing a press conference at Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) in the capital, Mehedi Hasan Sayeed, son of the veteran poet said ‘‘We have been living at house no 42, Monesshor Lane of Hajaribagh since 1969 and we bought the house in 1985 from the main owner of the house.”
From then, we have been living in the house peacefully as we have all necessary papers in favour of our ownership he said adding that recently local ‘Jatiya Party’ leader Shahabuddin Sabu and his close aides Aftab Ahmed and alleged drug peddler Rozi Akter are trying to occupy the house.
They are also threatening us to file false cases, attacks at the house, even killing us if we do not hand over the house to them, Mehedi alleged. We have lodged two diaries with Mothijeel and Hajaribagh police stations in this connection and a Dhaka Court on November 30, 2015 issued a permanent injunction on the land but the land grabbers are continuously trying to grab the house, said poet’s daughter Merina Sayeed. The Independent reporter failed to reach alleged land grabber Sabu despite several attempts.
