More websites with local contents should be increase for more internet penetration in the country, speakers said at a dialogue on digital content
and connectivity yesterday.
“Some 90 per cent of people use internet through mobile phones. So it is essential to increase local contents to get more internet users from all sections of life,” they said in the discussion held on the concluding day of the three-day smartphone and tab expo at Bangabandhu Interna-tional Conference Center (BICC) in the capital.
Speakers discussed the importance of digital content and spreading internet connectivity.
They plead everyone to collectively work towards the develop-ment of content and connectivity.
BASIS president Shameem Ahsan said the growth of internet and smartphone users in the country is not enough.
So, local digital content is inevitable to boost up the growth, he added.
Sonia Bashir Kabir, country manager of Microsoft, said: “We have to work according to the needs of the people. Content development is not enough, connectivity should also be increased.
And the telecom operators should play a vital role in this regard.”
Bangladesh Mobile Phone Importers Association secretary Rezwanul Haque said smart devices should be made available to the all.
“We are trying to provide smartphone with low price. If we want to increase connectivity we must increase usage of smartphones,” he said.
Samsung, Symphony, Stylus, Gloldberg, Oppo, Huawei, Rangs, Elite, Asus, Lenovo, MyCell, Twimns, Prestigio, gadget Gang Seven etc mobile phone companies participated in the fifth smartphone and tab expo.

Just a few years ago, it was quite rare to find a farmer seeking information and advice on farming by dialling a call centre, using the internet or availing mobile apps in rural Bangladesh. Not so now.…
