The ESPNcricinfo has picked five Bangladeshi cricketers as best player nominees in different categories for 2015. The categories are best batting and bowling, captain and debutant in the game’s three formats. The cricketers are Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad. Tigers’ ODI and T20 skipper Mashrafe was nominated in the leadership category. “Any year that changes the perception of a team on the international stage for the better should almost automatically translate into immortality for the man that led them through it. Some day Mashrafe Mortaza will likely go down in history as the man who paved the way for greater things for Bangladesh,” Cricinfo commented yesterday. The country’s new pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman (6 for 41 against India in 2nd of the 3-match ODI series in Dhaka) was nominated in the best ODI bowling category, along with Rubel Hossain (4 for 53 against England in the World Cup at Adelaide) . Mustafiz was also included in the best debutant category. He took five wickets in his first ODI and ended the year with 26 wickets in nine ODIs. Tamim was included in the best Test batsmen category for his knock of 206 against Pakistan in the Khulna Test. Mahmudullah got his place in the pool of best ODI batsmen for his century (128 not out) knock against New Zealand in the ICC World Cup in Hamilton.
