Bangladesh Cricket Team reached in the port city of Khulna to play four-match Twenty20 home series against visiting Zimbabwe yesterday.
The home side landed Jessore from Dhaka around 12:30pm. Thereafter, they reached Khulna by land route and said their Jumma prayers at Police Line Mosque. They entered into the Hotel City Inn Limited amid the tight security at 2:00pm.
The southern African nation, who is now in Afghanistan, is scheduled to land Dhaka on January 12. They will travel to the main venue in Khulna on the same day. The visitors will also be accommodated in Hotel City Inn Limited at the second port city of Bangladesh.
Barring ODI and T20 captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza alongside new batting sensation Soumya Sarkar, the bulk of the preliminary Bangladesh squad players for the upcoming T20 home series arrived in the venue ground.
It is known that Mashrafe went to Satkhira by sea plane yesterday morning in an invitation of Soumya Sarkar. But both of them are all set to reach Khulna in night at the same day.
The local side left Dhaka to cope with the condition just one week ahead of the onset of the series, which will be rolled onto the ground from January 15. But the Tigers will play two practice matches before going to the final clash. The practice matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday.
The rest of the matches of the Twenty20 series will be played at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium (SANS) in Khulna on January 17, 20 and 22 correspondingly.
Although the African tourists will leave Dhaka for Harare on January 23 Bangladesh team will stay there till January 31. Dhaka, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet-the four host cities of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, will be busy.
It is also known that the team management chose Khulna to continue their practice for the next course of action for that reason. And so, Mashrafe-Mushfiq have to stay there for 23 more days.
The stadium in Khulna, which is going to host Twenty20 matches after nine-year hiatus. Last time the stadium hosted the lone T20 match between Bangladesh and the same opponent in November 28, 2006.
