There have been complaints of some ministers and lawmakers (MPs) of the ruling party indulging in grabbing the lands of weak, minority groups in several places across the country. This was claimed while making public the contents of an investigation report on land occupation and attack on minority groups at Baliadanga of Thakurgaon. The disclosure was made by General Secretary of Arpita Sampatty Ain Protirodh Andalan, Subrata Chowdhury, during a press conference at Jatiya Press Club.
Executive Director of Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) Sultana Kamal said, “There is involvement of some ministers and MPs of the ruling party in grabbing lands and attacking minority groups. MP Dabirul Islam is directly involved in grabbing lands and attacking minorities in Thakurgaon. The name of another minister cropped up in a similar incident in Faridpur.”
Presenting a written statement, Subrata Chowdhury alleged that local MP Dabirul and his associates are involved in attacking minorities at Thakurgaon. He demanded that the government take proper legal action against the MP and his son Mazharul Islam and other associates immediately. Allegedly, the local police and administration is turning a blind eye to such activities which has further incensed the locals.
