Diti likely to come back home soon

National Film Award winning actress and director Parvin Sultana Diti had been diagnosed with brain tumour in July last year and has been  undergoing treatment at Chennai’s MIOT (Madras Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology). Diti had a surgery on July 29. Even though she had returned back to the country in September after the treatment, her condition did not show much improvement. After suddenly falling ill again, she was admitted to a local hospital and again, without much improvement, she was taken to Chennai again to receive further treatment. She underwent another surgery during the first week in November and her condition started deteriorating. After cancer and tumour, the actress is now suffering from Parkinson’s disease and according to the doctors in India, she is in a critical condition as she is in the second stage of Parkinson’s, from which there is not a complete recovery. . She is currently admitted in MIOT’s ICU. DhakaLive has news that her family is contemplating moving her back to Dhaka for treatment. Currently her daughter Lamia Chowdhury and son Safayet Chowdhury are with her in the hospital.
Director Mushfikur Rahman Gulzar has been in regular touch with the family over the phone and he informed, “Diti has now developed Parkinson’s from her cancer and tumour treatment. She has been in ICU for a long time now. If there was a chance of improvement from her staying in the ICU, then the family would have continued keeping her there. However, since there is no improvement and chances are unlikely, I spoke her son and daughter about bringing her back to the country to continue the treatment here.” He added, “Diti’s memory has started to suffer now and her condition is such that it is not possible for her to travel at the moment. When the time is suitable, then she will be brought back to the country. I am hoping that it will be possible to bring her back next week.”
