Warm clothes sellers are passing busy time in the city as cold weather has been prevailing in the northern region for the last few days. Due to cold wave and chill weather, sale of winter clothes has increased, both in the different posh markets and roadside shops of the city. Rich people are going to the posh shops of New Market and Saheb Bazaar RDA Market and various shopping malls to buy there warm clothes like sweaters, jackets, cardigans, woolen caps etc.
On the other hand, people with low income are crowding the roadside shops to buy second-hand warm clothes to protect themselves from the biting cold. “I have sold a number of second-hand warm clothes. Demand for used warm clothes is much higher than the new ones,” said Abbas Ali, owner of a shop at a roadside market near Zero Point of Saheb Bazaar. He informed, low and fixed income group people including rickshaw- pullers, day labourers and ordinary employees of different government and private organisations are crowding his shop. Shaheb Ali, a day labourer of Paba upazila who was visiting a foot path cloth store near Rajshahi railway station, informed he had bought a set sweater for his daughter at a cost of Tk 220. He said that price of warm clothes are higher than the last year. It was very hard for people like him to purchase warm clothes by spending such an exorbitant price. Meanwhile, Ashraf Uddin, owner of Chowdhury Cloth Store of RDA Market, informed he sells first-hand warm clothes including jeans jackets, sweaters, cardigans, woolen blazers and sweaters. He further informed that well-off people, especially youths, are buying these items from his shop as their quality and designs are good. Mehzabib Khanam, a banker of Rajshahi city and a residing of Malopara area of the city, said she had bought two woolen sweaters for her children from Chowdhury Cloth Store.
