Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday called for developing human resources for harnessing and utilisation of marine resources for the welfare of the people, reports BSS. "Maritime boundary has now been fixed and scope has also been created to utilise the marine resources but what is our limitation is that we have no adequate technological expertise to harness and utilise these resources," the minister told the opening session of a two-day conference on 'Bangladesh's Coastal Region and Maritime Environment' in the capital. Muhith said it has now become the responsibility to develop manpower with knowledge about maritime resources. Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan (BAPA) and Bangladesh Paribesh Network organised the conference. Educationist Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Stamford University VC Firoz Ahmed, BAPA general secretary Abdul Matin and vice president Nazrul Islam, among others, spoke on the occasion. Abu Sayeed said the country needs development but such development will have to be carried out without harming the environment. "Nature must be given priority," he added. After the opening session, BAPA leader Nazrul Islam made a presentation on the coast and marine environment. Foreign Secretary (marine science) Khorshed Alam highlighted different data-information on marine related issues.
