A case was filed with a local court yesterday against officer-in-charge (OC) of Maheshpur Police Station Shahin Alam and its sub-inspector (SI) Hafiz Uddin on charge of ‘abducting a youth and extorting money’ from his relatives for his release, reports UNB.
Bedana Khatoon, wife of Panki Mia of Hasadah village of Jibannagar upazila of the district, filed the case with the Amali Adalat of Chief Judicial Magistrate Dr ABM Mahmudul Haque.
Taking cognisance of her complaint, the court ordered judicial probe into the incident.
According to the plaintiff, SI Hafiz Uddin and his associates picked up her son Mosharraf Hossain from Hasadah village in a white microbus on January 4.
Later, the SI contacted the family members of the victim over mobile phone and demanded Tk 1 lakh for his release.
Mosharraf was allegedly kept and tortured in police custody for two days as the family members struggled to manage the money.
On January 5, the victim’s mother Bedana Khatun got her son released from the police station after paying Tk 70,000.
As the victim fell sick on that night, he was admitted to Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex.
