Indira Gandhi Culture Centre (IGCC) is organising an evening of Odissi dance recital by renowned artiste Proma Abonti tomorrow at 6 pm on the IGCC’s Gulshan premises in the capital.
Proma Abonti is an established Odissi dance artiste of the country, the first in Bangladesh with institutional education of Odissi dance form. She is an ICCR alumni and completed her M.A. in Odissi Dance from Rabindra Bharati University, India. She secured first class first position in both B.A and M.A. She has received the ‘Best Dancer artiste award’ in 2011 for her contribution in promoting Odissi Dance Form in Bangladesh from the prestigious Poushali Mukherjee Dance Academy in Kolkata.
She established ‘Odissi and Tagore Dance Movement Centre’ in 2001 for teaching the form of dance in Bangladesh. The centre follows the norm of renowned Padmabibhushan Shree Kelucharan Mohapatra’s Odissi Dance Style. In addition, it also promotes the teaching and learning of the original Tagore dance form.
