Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan joined the side, being jubilant and fresh even though he came to the ground for a brief practice less than a day after his arrival into the country from USA.
The holiday with his wife and his new born baby seemed to have worked well for the premier all-rounder who has been in continuous cricket in the last year. Although there was no official practice session, he spent the day with light gym and batting session with some of the players who came to the ground.
Shakib went straight to the USA after the BPL-3 where his side Rangpur Riders was overpowered by Barisal Bulls in the Qualifier-2 game. After the holiday, it seemed he needs to work on his fitness as coach Chandika Hathurusingha insisted on fitness skill ahead of the T20 series against Zimbabwe.
Shakib spent an hour in gymnasium along with Sabbir Rahman Rumman before going to the indoor complex to have a batting session. As usually Mushfiqur Rahim was also in the field even though it was optional training session. Some of the players including captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was also on the ground.
Shakib, who is the deputy to Mashrafe in the limiter over cricket, was seen talking with the skipper probably on the upcoming international schedules of Bangladesh for some time.
The Bangladesh team however will leave the Dhaka for Khulna today. Khulna will host all the four Twenty20 matches between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. The team management thereby took the decision to arrange a practice camp in Khulna.
Fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed, Mohammad Shahid and left-arm spinner Saqlain Sajib will also accompany the 14-meber squad in Khulna. Any of them amongst the trio could make it main squad when the selectors will announce the team for the last two Twenty20s.
The three cricketers however won’t join their team which will play the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL).
The selectors want to make some experiments in the four-match series against Zimbabwe in order to get a proper combination for Asia Cup and World T20. Bangladesh has often found them in vulnerable position in the shortest format of the cricket because of not to realise when to attack or when to defend. The BPL however has come as good for them as all of the cricketers have been in T20 cricket. But still when they proved their outright authority against Zimbabwe in ODI cricket, it wasn’t not sure how they would fare against the Southern African opponents in T20 series. Zimbabwe won the last T20 match from the jaw of the defeat when the two sides met in last November.
The four-match series is scheduled to be held on January 15, 17, 20 and 22, all of which will be taken place at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will take the decision after the Zimbabwe series whether they would allow the new pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman to play the Pakistan Super League (PSL) where he was acquired by Lahore Qalanders. The board wants Mustafizur to keep fresh ahead of the busy international schedule. They will talk to the physio and coach later in this regard before giving him the No Objection Certificate (NOC).
