Bangladesh has joined the international community in voicing concern over the nuclear tests conducted by North Korea.
Dhaka has also called upon Pyongyang to refrain from any action that might escalate the situation.
North Korea has claimed that it tested a hydrogen bomb on Wednesday.
“Bangladesh expresses its concern at the recent nuclear tests carried out by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. This is in contravention to the UN Security Council Resolutions, no 1718, 1874, 2087 and 2094 and the non-proliferation regime,” a foreign ministry statement said yesterday.
“As a state party to the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty) and CTBT (Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty), Bangladesh is committed to nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament,” the foreign ministry statement said.
“Bangladesh urges the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) to refrain from any activity which can potentially escalate the situation, and to reaffirm its commitment to the maintenance of peace and stability of the region and beyond,” the statement added.
