64 districts get election tribunals

The Election Commission (EC) has formed election tribunals and election appellate tribunals in all 64 districts to dispose of complaints regarding the recently concluded municipality polls.
The election tribunals were formed comprising Joint District Judge and the election appellate tribunals comprising District Judge, which will dispose of complaints filed by aggrieved persons against anomalies including vote rigging and election result manipulation.
Any complaint can be lodged with their respective election tribunals over polls manipulation within 30 days of publishing of gazettes of the elections. The election tribunals will dispose of the complaints within 180 days, says the EC.
On the other hand, the decision of the election tribunals can be challenged with the respective election appellate tribunals within 30 days of the judgment being passed. The appellate tribunals will dispose of the complaints and appeal within 120 days.
The Election commission formed the tribunals on Tuesday after issuing a circular in this regard.
Meanwhile, the EC has already sent letters to the Bangladesh Government Press to print the gazette of the results of 11 districts. The districts are Chittagong, Rangamati, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Nilphamari, Chapainawabganj, Panchagar, Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Barguna and Chuadanga. EC has also asked the BG press to send the printed gazettes of the results within five working days.
EC sources said the results of other districts will be sent gradually for printing.
The elections to different municipalities on December 30 were marked with various irregularities including clashes and vote rigging. For such incidents, the commission suspended elections to 51 centres including in the Madhabdi municipalities. The commission on Tuesday announced fresh date of elections to these centrs to be held on January 12.
