A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bangladesh Bridge Authority and Bangladesh Railway (BR) yesterday to arrange necessary land for constructing an independent railway bridge across the Jamuna River, reports UNB.
Secretary of the Bridges Department Khandaker Anwarul Islam and Director General of Bangladesh Railway M Amzad Hossain signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations in presence of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Obaidul Quader said Bangladesh Army in association with Bridges Department will look after the security of Jamuna Resort during the project.
Some 12.43 acres of land has been leased out to North-West Power Generation Company Ltd for implementing the 500 megawatts solar electricity development project, the ruling party lawmaker added.
Quader, also presidium member of the ruling party, said the amount of stipend for the children of Bridges Department officials has been increased to Tk 2,000 from Tk 500.
While talking about the increase of cost in the Padma Bridge project, the minister said the cost has been raised due to several reasons including the increase of dollar rate, taking 500 acres additional land and other related projects.
