The government is setting up 60 police investigation centres at different parts of the country to maintain area-wise law and order and take up correct and quick crime probe process, reports BSS.
“Around 69 percent works of setting up 60 investigation centres have already been done till November last year with completion of construction works of 17 centres while installation of 43 others are now going on in full swing,” Assistant Inspector General (AIG-development) of police Gazi Mozammel Hoque said.
The government has taken up the project involving around Tk 17.45 crore in July, 2009 with an expectation to complete it in June this year under the finance of Annual Development Program (ADP).
"Sixty investigation centres of two to three storey buildings having accommodation facilities are now being built at different parts of the country under the project," he also said.
At least 30 police personnel including two to three sub inspectors will be posted in each of the investigation centres which will help to reduce area-wise crimes as cops can reach the spot fast after they receive information of any crime, he opined, saying, "Each of the investigation centre is now being built 15 to 20 kilometers away from the police stations."
“Investigation into different cases will be completed at the quickest possible time and the probe will proper and correct as police personnel of the centres will deal with the cases of their localities," he added.
"With completion of the centres will also put an end to the accommodation crisis and inhuman life of the police personnel," he opined.
Forty eight investigation centres under another project have already started functioning as their construction was completed.
The police officer said the government had earlier allocated two to three acres of land for constructing each of the investigation centres and now allocates only 10 kathas in line with the cabinet order.
"It is impossible to build two to three storied building on 10 kathas of land having the capacity to accommodate police personnel and storehouse in preserving evidences of different cases," he said, adding that it posses security threat as anyone can throw anything towards the main complex due to its small area.
