Awami League senior leader and Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam yesterday said Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami would be banned within this year through legal procedures.
“Insh-Allah, the politics of Jamaat will be banned by 2016. There is no doubt about it. The politics of Jamaat can’t continue on the soil of Bangladesh. Even financial sources of the party would be blocked,” Qamrul said while addressing an anti-hartal programme in front of National Press Club in the capital.
Jamaat, a key partner of the BNP led 20-party alliance, called the dawn-to-dusk countrywide hartal for yesterday protesting the death penalty against
its chief Matiur Rahman Nizami. Speaking on the execution of the Supreme Court verdict against Jamaat leader Nizami, the AL leader said the verdict will be executed like other Jamaat leaders once all legal procedure are completed.
“Execution of Nizami verdict is now a matter of time,” he said.
Addressing the programme, AL publicity and publication affairs secretary Hasan Mahmud said the ruling AL or the present government would never sit for a dialogue with the BNP as the party has links to not only with local terrorism but international terrorism as well.
He also claimed that the people have completely rejected the hartal and that everything in the country was normal. He also claimed that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia herself has become a burden for her party.
