Tax exemption for IT sector till 2024 on cards

Bangla Anroid smartphone launched

The government is planning to extend the tax exemption for software development and information technology-enabled services (ITES) by another five years to encourage investment in the sector, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister for ICT, said yesterday.
Government is very keen to create friendly environment to the ICT entrepreneurs in the country, he said while inaugurating a three-day smartphone and tab expo at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital.
The tax waiver on income from software and ITES may be extended to 2024 from June 30, 2019.
Earlier, in the last two years, Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), Bangladesh Computer Council, and Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh, three IT related organisations, have jointly been demanding extension of the tax exemption till 2024 for the sake of the sector's progress.
In the opening ceremony of the expo Palak said: “I hope our domestic brands of mobile phones will represent Bangladesh someday as Micro-max represents India.”
Meanwhile, in the expo, Elite Mobile launched Bangla Anroid smartphone for the first time in the country. E 40, the new smart phone, powered by Firstouch, egional operating system, costs Tk 3,999.
The configuration of E 40, the new smartphone includes usable interface and keyboard completely in Bangla language, where a user can change an English word or a sentence to Bangla and vice-versa through internet by swiping his finger.
Language of a message can also be change in the same way.
E 40 also has an Apps Market which has more than 10,000 apps that are free and they do not require any email address. Besides, first smartphone users can use E 40 smartphone through its tutorial which has been based completely in Bangla language.
A mega pavilion, 8 pavilions, 4 mini pavilions, 8 stalls, a media booth, a ticket counter booth and an organiser booth are set up in the technology carnival.
This is the 5th event of its kind organised by the even management organisation Expo Maker.
Many renowned brands including Samsung, Symphony, Stylus, Gloldberg, Oppo, Huawei, Rangs, Elite, Asus, Lenovo, MyCell, Twimns, Prestigio, gadget Gang Seven etc participated at the event. Most of the mobile stalls are offering discounts on the occasion of the expo.
The expo will remain open from 10 am to 8 pm for the visitors.
Country’s top mobile operator Grameenphone is the title sponsor while Elite, Huwaei, Samsung and Symphony are the co-sponsors of the expo.
