Bangladesh Paribesh Andalan (BAPA) will organise a two-daylong conference on coastal and marine environment of Bangladesh from January 8 at the Krishibid Institution of Bangladesh in the capital, says a press release.
BAPA is hosting this conference jointly with Bangladesh Environment Network (BEN) to bring together national, regional and international experts and activists working on coastal and marine ecosystems. The theme for this year’s meet is “Mangroves: Guardians of the Coast.” The conference will be addressing pressing issues of coastal and marine environment and formulate recommendations for protection of biodiversity and sustainable management of ecosystems. It will be comprised of a general session, technical sessions and panel discussions. Invited speakers and registered guests will be participating in the panel discussions and there will be an exhibition showcasing works in marine science and conservation.
The goals of the BAPA-BEN initiative include encouraging research on coastal protection and livelihood, strengthening efforts of coastal and marine conservation in Bangladesh both in science and practices; enable the participants to identify the strategies and key actions for sustainable management of coastal and marine ecosystems.
