The disaster management and relief ministry will suggest that March 10 be observed as ‘National Disaster Preparedness Day’ (NDPD). A proposal in this regard will soon be sent to the Cabinet for approval.
The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting at the seminar room of the disaster management and relief ministry, with minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya in the chair.
“This will create awareness among people and motivate them to manage disasters successfully. We'll soon place the proposal before the Cabinet meeting,” M Shah Kamal, secretary to the ministry, told reporters after the meeting.
Generally, the day is observed on the last Thursday of March every year. But the day was observed on March 31 last year, as Independence Day fell on the last Thursday of the month.
