Soumyen Adhikari performs at IGCC tomorrow

Singer Soumyen Adhikari from India will perform in a musical evening tomorrow at the Indira Gandhi Culture Centre (IGCC) in the city’s Gulshan area. Organised by IGCC, the singer will render the songs of late noted singer Hemanta Mukhopadhyay in the show.
Born in 1968 in Kolkata, Soumyen Adhikari was initiated into music by his father, Late Golok Nath Adhikary, after which he trained in Rabindra Sangeet, classical music and modern songs from stalwarts such as Shyamal Chatterjee, Chittopriyo Mukherjee, Probir Mojumder, Amal Mukherjee, Mrinal Banerjee and Kanu Bhattacharjee. Adhikari’s music is deeply influenced by legendary maestro Hemanta Kumar Mukhopadhyay.
Adhikari has won several awards during his illustrious career such as ‘Hemanta Smriti Puroskar’, ‘Uttam Kumar Smriti Puroskar’ and ‘Loke Nath Award’.
The audio cassettes and CDs of solo and duet performances of Adhikari with celebrities such as Kumar Shanu, Haimanti Shukla, Amrick Singh Arora, Dipankar Chatterjee, Jojo and Lopamudra Mitra have been released by top music houses. Adhikari has also performed as a playback singer in several Bengali films and TV serials. He is also a regular performer for All India Radio FM Centre, Kolkata; Doordarshan and many private TV channels in India.
Adhikari has performed extensively within India and abroad. He was invited to sing at the ‘Bango Sanskritik Sammelan’ in Liverpool, which was followed by performances in other cities in the UK, USA, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Singapore and Bangladesh.
Soumyen Adhikari will be accompanied by reputed Tabla artist Sandyman from London.  Sandyman was born in London and trained under legendary Pandit’s such as Govind Chatterjee, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee and Pandit Ajay Chakravarty, among others. He regularly performs in musical concerts, albums in the UK and Europe and also regularly accompanies reputed artists from India and Bangladesh.
