A Dhaka court yesterday sent BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas to jail after he surrendered before the court in two cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations. Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Mahbubur Rahman passed the order after the hearing.
Defence lawyers submitted bail petitions in the two cases—one for arson attack and another for attempt to murder.
However, both petitions were rejected by the court.
The same court, however, granted Mirza Abbas bail in two other cases, one filed for obstructing law enforcers from discharging their duties and another for destructive activities during the countrywide hartal called by the BNP-led alliance on June 26, 2010.
The two cases were filed with Mirpur Police Station.
