Dhaka slams attacks on Tehran�s Saudi missions

Bangladesh has condemned the recent attacks on Saudi Arabian missions in Iran and urged the Iranian authorities to take necessary measures to stop repetition of such incidents.
Protesters launched attacks on Saudi embassy in Tehran and its consulate in Mashhad following the execution of Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr and 46 others on Saturday.
Saudi Arabia already severed diplomatic ties with Iran after the attacks on its diplomatic facilities.
“Bangladesh condemns the recent attacks on the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Tehran and its Consulate in Mashhad as such acts are in clear violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961, and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, 1963,” said a statement issued by the foreign ministry yesterday.

“It is the responsibility of the host government to accord necessary protection to the diplomatic and consular missions within its jurisdiction as these are inviolable under the international law,” it said.   
“Bangladesh calls upon the Islamic Republic of Iran to take urgent necessary measures to stop recurrence of such incidents,” it added.
It may be mentioned that Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali is now in Saudi Arabia on a bilateral visit.
